Movies about Family Crisis- Parents Can Be Jerks

You can't choose your parents, and parenting does not necessarily come with wisdom already achieved. These parents are, as a matter of fact, self important narcissists with enormous egos that they should have dealt with in the first place.  This weekend‘s picks are films about the parents you wouldn't want to have.

Movies about Family Crisis

The Squid and the Whale

This movie about the family crisis was a real jewel. Getting wrapped up in the egoistic nonsense of their divorcing parents leaves two teenaged boys carrying the heavy burden of mommy’s and daddy’s little little sorrows and leaves them very little space for their own development.

Now they have to find a balance in the world and shake up their fears.

My Sister’s Keeper

Some parents should actually get a license before bringing up children. The movie My Sister’s Keeper presents the gripping story of Anna Fitzgerald, who is a 13-year-old girl who is preparing to donate a kidney to her sick older sister.

A small detail is that Anna was concieved and brought into this earth for this very purpose.  In the end, it is the children who take a more responsible role than their parents.

What Maisie Knew

In the middle of her parents‘ bitter, epic divorce stands Maisie, a little girl who deals with the upcoming chaos of the situations and people around her in a charming and honest way.

It doesn’t really take much of a brain to figure out that when parents are childish, a child has to be adult.

Black Swan

Parents who have ambitions for their children – that is a separate category in the universe of twisted parents.

This psychological drama tells the story of Nina, a New York ballerina who lives with her mother, Erica, an ex-ballerina whose career did not go according her expectations, and so she transfers her hopes to her daughter.

This is a drama that will give you goose bumps.

The Kids Are All Right

To take a lighter approach to the topic of difficult parents, here comes a comedy, The kids Are All Right. Gay couple Julianne Moore and Annette Bening each have one child through IVF,  both from the same donor.

The kids seems to be all right until one of them decides to learn more about the father. And now things start taking shape, and not in a good way.

The newly found papa seems to enjoy his unexpected new role and doesn’t limit his interest to the kids.

This is a comedy about the immaturity of parents, presented with crisp humour.
