Movies to Watch This Summer

This summer promises to bring many incredible blockbusters to the big screen.

Every summer a bunch of big new releases capture the attention of audiences worldwide. This summer in particular is looking like it’s going to be a major one for blockbusters. After a difficult 2020 and a rather underwhelming 2021 for cinemas, this year will likely get people into seats without too much of a pandemic concern. Let’s hope that cinemas everywhere make enough of a profit so that they can bounce back a little from a tough couple of years.

A Summer of Hits Again

Despite unfortunately some expected blockbusters being pushed to later dates, take John Wick 4 for example, there is still quite a good number of great films being released this summer. Studios like Pixar are finally releasing their movies into the cinema again after releasing a couple of their last films only on streaming. So many studios are expecting to profit and get a good return on their projects that are slated for this year.

So far, during the early months of this year, we’ve seen hits like The Batman and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 become huge wins for their studios. The audiences have been showing up to the cinemas once again to watch these movies because they are actually good. That’s clearly been the key indicator so far because certainly, movies like Morbius and the third Fantastic Beasts have failed for a reason.

Upcoming Hits

Top Gun: Maverick will be the new Tom Cruise action flick. The first Top Gun film came out in 1986 so this sequel’s been a long time in the making. The film has indeed been delayed for a while due to the pandemic but on May 27 you can finally experience it for yourself in the cinema.

Jurassic World: Dominion is the third movie in this new trilogy. Despite the very lackluster performance and critical reception of the second film, this movie will still do huge numbers for numerous reasons. One, it still has Jurassic in the title, and two, the return of major figures of the franchise plays a huge role here. The legends from the original, Sam Neill and Laura Dern are indeed back as the trailers have shown so if you’re a fan of Jurassic Park you can’t miss this one. Catch it everywhere in theatres on June 10.

Lightyear is obviously a spin-off from the Toy Story series by Pixar. This movie guarantees enjoyment and fun for the whole family. Pixar very rarely falters in their movie releases and from the trailers and the ties to one of the greatest movie franchises ever, no doubt Lightyear will be a blast. The movie releases on June 17 in theatres everywhere and stars the ever-amazing Chris Evans in the titular role.

Minions: The Rise of Gru is the sequel to the first Minions movie that earned over a billion dollars worldwide. Illumination has figured out a way to make fun, popcorn films for the kids that adults can enjoy as well. Steve Carell is back as Gru as well. The film releases in the US on July 1.

Thor: Love and Thunder is the next Marvel entry into the Thor franchise. After what Taika Waititi did with the third movie, it’s no wonder he’s back directing the fourth. The first trailer is already out on YouTube and it looks like this is going to be so much fun. Surely everyone is already aware of the release date here but just in case, Thor: Love and Thunder comes out on July 8 in theatres.

Secret Headquarters might not be on your radar as of yet but this original superhero film will likely also be a huge hit when it comes out. Owen Wilson never disappoints with his wit and charm, which this movie is looking like it has plenty of. The film will release in cinemas on August 5.

Make sure you don’t miss out on these wonderful upcoming movies that surely will be huge hits for good reason. There’s a return in excitement among movie fans and a breeze of hopefulness that this summer will be one to remember with many worthy hits.
