IoT: #YTglobal Expert Theodoor van der Klaauw: Prepare for the Impact of Digital Twins

This year the Youth Global Forum will celebrate its fifth year anniversary. Under the theme of ‘’Industry 5.0 vs Inclusive Development: Where is the future?’’, Theodoor van der Klaauw will join our panel of expert speakers for the first time as he looks to educate and engage participants on ioT (Internet of Things). He has expertise in matters of Industry 4.0 & ioT whilst currently he is a consultant for global powerhouse, IBM. We sat down briefly with Theodoor to get his thoughts on the upcoming Youth Global Forum and to also some advice for the participants ahead of their arrival.

The countdown to the fifth annual Youth Global Forum has begun. You will be serving as one of the events expert speakers this year so can you give us a short introduction about who you are and what you do?

Can’t wait! After conducting different studies on innovation partnerships and data platforms in the smart city space, I have started working as a consultant at IBM. This role allows me to further develop my passion for IoT (internet of things) and cognitive computing by advising large enterprises on how connected assets and operations can grow their bottom line.

What attracted you to be a part of the Youth Global Forum in Amsterdam this year?

According to the Innovation Scoreboard 2019, The Netherlands is one of the innovation leaders in Europe. In my opinion, the Youth Global Forum is a great platform to educate future leaders on technological capabilities as well as to enhance the debate on how, for instance, IoT can contribute to achieving societal goals such as inclusiveness.

In addition, probably there is no better place to celebrate YGF’s anniversary theme than in Amsterdam.

You have worked closely with IoT for a lot of your professional career so far. The internet of things already plays a huge part in our lives both professionally and personally. What are some of issues and/or new developments surrounding IoT that today’s youth should be most interested in?

Personally, I am very much interested in the developments around so called ‘Digital Twins’. To find out how this is going to impact the way we work, live, and interact with technology even more in the upcoming years, I encourage today’s youth to visit this session.

You will be presenting a workshop at the Youth Global Forum related to IoT. Can you give us any spoilers as to what participants can expect to learn and engage in during your presentation?

My aim is to educate the audience about the current state and future opportunities of IoT in communities. Moreover, the session will include some practical experiments and/or games.

Before we let you go, just one last question. If you could give one piece of advice to help those who are preparing to come to the Youth Global Forum, what would it be?

Please reach out to me with any questions or personal interests related to an IoT workshop.
