Words From Movies That Made It To The Dictionary – Weekend Picks

In yesterday´s mini quiz we gave you the clues to the movies that we recommend for this weekend. We hope you got all of them right!

Sophie’s Choice

Sophie’s choice refers to an unbearable drastic choice of the main character Sophie Zawistowski during the WWII., who, on the command of the Nazi officer, had to choose between which of her two children would live.

Bombshell

The word we were looking for was Bombshell and originally was used to describe a woman’s charming and breath taking appearance – simply bombastic.

Lolita

In 1953 Vladimir Nabokov finished a book with the title Lolita. Lolita was the nickname for Dolores – the main character of the book. The book initially went unnoticed, but two years later it created an explosive critisism. Lolita was banned in many countries for its controversial subject. The editor of  Sunday Express John Gordon called the book: “the filthiest book I have ever read” and “sheer unrestrained pornography”. Till date the book quite justifiably generates controversy. The novel though was filmed several times.
