It has been said that there’s a subtle difference between being friendly and being nice. According to some, the people of Quebec are more friendly than nice. On the other hand, if people hold the door open for you, are helpful, have a ready bonjour for you, have a great sense of humour and if your neighbour will be cooperative and friendly, it all spells of niceness to me.
There are three universities in Quebec that have the medium of instruction in English. The rest of them teach in French which is the official language. One of the universities that teaches in English, McGill, is among the top rated in the world.
There’s quite a difference in the fees structure in Quebec. The students from within the province pay approximately 3,500 US$ equivalent while the rest of the Canadians pay around 7,500 and international students about 15,000.
For those who wish to earn and learn a student is allowed to work 20 hours per week and full time during holidays. The minimum wages in Quebec are also fairly high at Canadian $12.50 per hour which is about a dollar and a half above the national average.
One more reason that international students are attracted to Quebec, apart from it’s splendour of course, is the PEQ which roughly translates to the Quebec Experience Program and which enables them to apply for permanent residency and later citizenship once they are qualified. In this case, they must become proficient at French.
