In this article, we’ll talk about the University of Montpellier. The universities of Nimes and Perpignan come under the aegis of the University of Montpellier. In two words, we are going to talk about university cities.

Nimes is just an hour away from Montpellier and Perpignan is under two hours.
Montpellier, though founded in the 10th century is a city full of young energy.

Students seem to fill out this city since about 35 percent of the population are students, many of them international.

Apart from the usual night clubs and cafes favoured by students just a walk around the city at a strolling pace is a delight in itself. The narrow back streets and pathways take you back in history.

A fair number of well heeled come to Montpellier for shopping as you have everything from the low end to the designer shops in the little lanes of the city.

Nimes on the other hand has an ancient and modern look. Denim jeans are associated with the U.S. Fact is, Nimes was one of the centers for textile production in France and Denim fabric is an adaption from the word de Nimes.

The establishment of the city goes back more than 2000 years.

The places that you can see as a student repeatedly and never get bored are the Roman amphitheatre, the farmers market, the garden of fountains which is also ancient and known as the Jardins de la Fontaine and several other ancient ruins but ruins that have withstood the ravages of time.

Perpignan is another striking city. Considering it’s on the border with Spain, culturally the city is a little different from most of the cities in France.

Many over here have adopted the Spanish way of life and thus entertainment can go on until late in the night.

Just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean Sea, the city gives you access to some of the best beaches along with the usual and of course the Mediterranean cuisine.

Cost of living

If you aspire to study in any of these cities, do keep in mind that you are going to be living in one of the most expensive countries in the world and budget for between 1100 to 1200 $ per month.

This should allow you to live fairly comfortably while you are prepared for shared accommodation. This, apart from your fees.
