The popularity of podcasts has risen to exponential levels in recent times. Whether it be the ease of which they can be accessed or the relaxed, informal yet informative setting they seem to create; several podcasts have become an integral part of our daily lives. Every week, we will take a look at podcasts from the world over to help you find the podcast that is perfect for you. This week, it’s the Joe Rogan Experience.
December 4th, 2009. After spending almost fifteen minutes trying to seemingly figure out how to operate a webcam, a blurry faced Joe Rogan, accompanied by comedian Brian Redband, broadcasted the first ever episode of the Joe Rogan Experience.
Showcasing a hilarious animated snow filter, Joe and Brian went on to ramble about everything and anything from his time on the hit television show Fear Factor, experiences with Crocodiles and a number of conspiracy theories which included the Cuban Missile Crisis and the assassination of former US President John F Kennedy. The podcast looked to be a light hearted discussion between two members of an all-male fraternity, shot in their dorm room over a few adult beverages and destined to only be watched by a collection of their MySpace friends and fellow frat house friends.
Fast forward to 2019 and the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) is one of the most popular podcasts in the world today; making the top 25 list of the most downloaded podcasts on the Apple store in 2018 and amassing over 5.2 million subscribers on Youtube with a new episode being released almost daily.
UFC Commentator and all around nice guy Joe Rogan sits down with a host of different celebrities, sports stars, influencers and leading figures in science, social media and politics alike; you never know who to expect on the JRE podcast with previous guests including Neil deGrasse Tyson, Elon Musk, Mike Tyson, Joey Diaz, Dr Phill, Macaulay Culkin and many, many more; the list is endless!
The podcast varies in length and can run anywhere from one hour long to specials that have previously run over four hours! There is no format, no script reading. The show follows an interview-like format whereby Joe will go on to interview each guest on relevant topics but has a tradition to veer of course and end up rambling on about unrelated issues that produce gem moments for his audience to enjoy.
Whilst his guests vary and come from various spheres of the known universe, he does offer a little regularity in his podcasts. His weekly MMA podcast will normally be run with guests from the mixed martial arts world including podcast regular and former UFC fighter Brendan Schaub.
Other regular guests have included everyone’s favourite astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, where they regularly discuss the wonders and dangers of the eternal abyss that is outer space; Controversial Professor of Psychology and author of the Amazon best seller ’12 Rules for Life’ Jordan Peterson and comedian legend Joey Diaz.
The Joe Rogan Experience is a podcast for all ages at all times. Whether it be working out at the gym, hitting the road for a run or just passing the time at work or at home; there is a JRE podcast for everyone so dive into the chronicles of almost 1300 episodes and get up to date with all the latest from Joe Rogan.
JRE episodes not to miss: #1194 – Sober October 2 Recap, MMA Show #39 – Donald ‘’Cowboy’’ Cerrone, #1169 – Elon Musk.
