To know a country one should live there at least a while. Though there are always shortcuts. This time it’s Poland, almost all films based on real incidents. You might also pick up some of the language while you watch.

Wesele (The Wedding)

Although the film might give a feeling of an out an out comedy, it’s actually a take off on the many negative aspects of our society. It’s about envy, greed, malice…all offered in abundance during a wedding of the local rich man’s daughter in a village.

Agnus Dei

The horrors during the years of the war are portrayed in innumerable movies from many different view points. The story is based on true incidents and has been described by Dr. Mathilde Beaulieu in her diaries while she worked for the Red Cross during the end of the WWII. It  brings out, pictures of the war that are truly shocking. When called by a benedict nun to a convent she discovers a nun is  just about ready to deliver a baby and several others pregnant,  as a result of gang rape by the Russian troops.

Carte Blanche
