Recently we published a weekly movie picks article about actors who have been around since they were children. Quite logically it makes sense to look at the other end of the spectrum and cover actors who by chance or by struggle succeeded only in their late thirties or even later.
Never is too late
Usually, we are thinking that the story of success is written in young years of our lives. And if we lose the opportunity to glow in our 15 minutes fame until our 30s, we are doomed to be nobody. Be awair, that is the trap that we wouldn’t like you to fall in.
Because of this fact, we have prepared the list of inspirational stories about actors who have started their careers a bit late. Life can begin whenever you decide. Keep trying and never stop believing in yourself. Good luck. And remember: Never is too late.
Kathy Bates
Kathy Bates was a theater actress who had landed just a few small roles in movies before she was selected for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s best-selling horror novel Misery. Here, at the age of forty-two, she created an unforgettable role as Annie Wilkes, the fanatical admirer of books about Misery.
Steve Carell
While acting in TV films and shows, the breakthrough came at the age of 39 in the movie Bruce Almighty. Which opened up a whole line of opportunities for Steve Carell.
Samuel L. Jackson
Samuel L. Jackson did not start his acting career the usual way, either. Before he started acting, he worked as a concierge at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. Although he had already appeared in many movies, his breakout role was in 1994’s Pulp Fiction, when he was 46 years old.
Harrison Ford
With Harrison Ford, the situation was different. For his university major, he had chosen drama. Since his results were good, the idea of becoming an actor soon became his ambition.
In his early twenties he left for Hollywood to persue his dream. Nevertheless, he got very few roles and therefore made his living as a carpenter. His breakthrough came with Star Wars in 1977, catapulting Ford into the ranks of the stars. He was 35 years old at the time.
Morgan Freeman
The story of Morgan Freeman has some similarities with the Harrison Ford story. Similarly, Morgan Freeman had wanted to be an actor since he was in his twenties. He acted in theater plays and musical. Also he took small roles in movies.
Finally, real success came in 1989, when he was 52 years of age, with two movies: Glory and Driving Miss Daisy, the second of which won him an Oscar.
