Mysterious Places – Nazca Lines In The Peruvian Desert

Now under UNESCO World Heritage Site protection, the large designs in the Nazca Desert go as far back as 500 BC and were preserved mainly by stable desert climate conditions.  Archaeologists do not all agree as to their purpose, and there are also differences of opinion as to their antiquity.  Some experts believe they could have derived from the pre-Columbian Peruvians‘ knowledge of astronomy while others think they are religious designs – related to ancient rituals to source water.
