夏はまだ終わっていない – Movie Trip To Japan

From France to Spain, across to Italy, Romania and Croatia, through the remoteness of India and Russia, this weekend we will extend our reach to The Land of the Rising Sun - Japan. Japanese cinematography is in no way limited to manga and anime movies. The list of movies that we present to you will take you to current Japan, from different angles and genres.

あん (Sweet Bean)

When the uncanny baking skills of an old lady and one almost alchemistic recipe not only help to bring great success to a small bakery, but make people happy as well, the popular kitchen genre has reached Japan, too.

そして父になる (Like Father, Like Son)

The core values of people usually manifest themselves only in times of crisis.  A young architect, Ryot, and his wife, Keita, have their lives perfectly in order, like his career, when they learn that their six-year-old son was exchanged with another child at birth – news that is not only a nightmare for them but also for the other, affected family, but which will bring out the depth in their personalities.

奇跡 (I Wish)

A miracle happens when two trains first pass each other… and if you see it, your wish will come true.
That simple conviction drives this endearing indie movie about a little boy who wishes to stop his family from splitting up.

おくりびと (Departures)

The Japanese sense for sophistication in all kinds of activities comes to the fore in this movie about – for some, maybe – a bit of a morbid topic. After being made redundant by an orchestra, a young violincellist takes in desperation a job preparing the deceased for their coffins, in the presence of relatives, and with great grace and elegance. Not a job for everybody, and surely a profession at the fringes of society. The film gives viewers an unforgettable experience.

歓待 (Hospitalité)

The movie’s essentially absurd plot, together with good dose of psychological agency, creates an interesting comedy. Fukado Kōji runs a business with his family when a man walks in and informs him he should work there. Nobody even thinks about resisting him or his decision, but soon it is apparent that he won´t be the last guest in the household.
