Julie & Julia
“What is it you really like to do?”

That, in a nutshell, could be the synopsis how Julia Child (Meryl Streep), the bored wife of a well-situated American diplomat in France, discovered her passion and one might even say obsession for cooking. On the other side of the Atlantic a few decades later, her namesake Julie Powell decides to launch a project to pay a tribute to Child by cooking all the recipes from her famous cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, within one year. One could argue about the character of the old lady, but what is for sure is that the movie offers a colossal quantity of onion cutting and other ingredients preparation against the backdrop of a very warm and appealing atmosphere.
No Reservations
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and Abigail Breslin create a harmonic trio in a romantic comedy with a dash of sadness from the kitchen in the background. Kate Armstrong is the head chef of a posh restaurant and a culinary maniac, with no consideration for human beings whatsoever. When she ends up responsible for the care of her little niece Zoe, her lifestyle registers its first serious cracks. Not to mention a clash with the new co-chef – the charismatic Nick Palmer. As they say: Love goes through the stomach . . . in the case of two chefs, something good surely comes out of it.
The Lunchbox
Indian dabbawalas are people who are part of an incredibly reliable lunch delivery service in India. Their precision in delivery was a matter of a Harvard study, and as one of the dabbawalas claims in the movie, when confronted, they never make a mistake.
And yet one lunch box escapes their attention and creates a space for an endearing love story with a pinch of indian spices.
Chef
When you have a passion, you have to follow it wherever it leads you. In the case of head chef Carl Casper, his passion takes him from a classy restaurant to a food truck on its way from Miami to Los Angeles, selling delicious, top-quality Cuban sandwiches and yuca fries along the way. As it turns out, this might be for the best for more than just one reason.
Chocolat
As a sweet ending, here is the movie Chocolat, about the magic only chocolate can do – to change a people, a town, and relationships. Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp in a sweet, romantic film based on the belief that chocolate can spoil a town‘s strict morality.
