The Devil Wears Prada
Implacable Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the most powerful woman in the fashion industry, runs a magazine called Runway which is at the absolute top in fashion. Everybody around Miranda must be perfect. Before her stands Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) – a small, shy, undistingushed, innocent graduate of a prestigious university. She is ambitious, but getting through Miranda’s critical filter won’t be easy.
Coco Chanel
Who hasn’t heard about Coco Chanel and her timeless little black dress, not to mention the glorious Chanel No 5? The story of the fashion icon, the young Gabrielle, who starts humbly in tailoring and changes the rules for women’s fashion once and for all. Audrey Tautou deserves all the credit for her role, and again, as in Amelie – she manages to create an unforgettable portrait.
Fashion Victims
A German comedy about the troubles of one women’s clothing salesman. When Wolfgang Zenker loses his driving licence, he employs his son, who involuntarily has to cancel all his plans and become a chauffeur for his daddy. Then the son falls in love with Steven, who is Wolfgang’s uttermost rival, and on top of it his marital and financial problems aren’t a pretty picture, either.
Dior and I
Haute couture in a documentary movie which unveils what happens behind the scenes of French luxury fashion house Dior, while observing the newly appointed art director of Dior – Raf Simons – who is preparing his first collection.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
What would it be like to write about fashion and not mention Breakfast at Tiffany’s, with Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, fulfilling her dreams of a bright future through “contributions to taxi and clothing” from her male admirers. Perfectly dressed and tidy even while sleeping. Until she meets Paul, and plans change a bit.
The unforgettable line, “I’d marry you for your money in a minute. Would you marry me for my money?”
“In a minute.”
“I guess it’s pretty lucky neither of us is rich, huh?”…
