Every Friday afternoon we at YT, publish a selection from old and new movies for the upcoming weekend. This week is no exception and we have chosen movie picks related to exceptional female characters.
The Laundromat
Meryl Streep in one of her latest movies as a retired woman who dives into investigating the insurance policy of her husband after his tragic death. A woman who initially presents herself as an ordinary woman with no knowledge of the business world, develops over a period of time into a person determined to find the truth at any price.
Vita & Virginia
There was a lot written about the British modernist author Virginia Woolf including her suffering most of her life due to a fragile psyche and yet this didn´t stop her from becoming an icon of literature. The film deals with a part of her life dedicated to her female lover Vita Sackville-West, and at the same time gives you an insight into her as a writer.
I was, I am, I will be
Marion is a German pilot who has just been diagnosed with cancer. Taking a vacation in Turkey with her boyfriend, she runs into Baran – a kurdish gigolo dreaming about a better life in Europe. A marriage proposal from Baran first comes as a surprise, but then when one needs help and the other can help, she agrees.
The Invisible Woman
Charles Dickens, the author of classical pieces Oliver Twist or David Copperfield. A man for whom most have a respect for his contribution to literature. Nevertheless, every human has more dimensions as somebody said, and so does Dickens.
One of his is a young girl named Nelly for whom he deserted his family – his wife and ten children. Given the days they lived in, society was not accepting of such arangments. Nelly became an inspiration for several of Dickens´ characters – but destined to remain an invisible muse.
