Don’t Know What Kind of Blog Would be Best for Your Startup? Review of 12 Blogging Styles to Solve This Issue

There are many different types of blogs, differing not only in the type of content, but also in the way that content is delivered or written. I’m going to touch upon 12 different styles of blogging according to blog classification by Rohit Bhargava and my personal opinion on the assumption of my professional blogging experience.

He is a founding member of the 360 Digital Influence group at Ogilvy and author of the award winning new marketing book “Personality Not Included”. Rohit publishes the Influential Marketing blog, ranked among the top marketing blogs in the world, and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Ad Asia and media around the world.

The Key

Max times p/w Each style has a suggestion for the maximum times it should be used per week to avoid having stale blog content.
Buzz index This rating indicates how likely a blog post of this style is likely to be linked to and commented on (1 is low, 5 is high).
Difficulty – Represents how much effort and original thought is required to complete each style of blog post. Styles are rated Easy, Medium, or Hard.

Insight Blogging
This kind of blogging is dedicated to insights sharing, original ideas, commentary or trends on a particular topic.
Many consider this the most difficult type of blogging to do. In my consideration this style of blogging is the most interesting that’s why i am using it personally.

Piggyback Blogging
Writing about a topic that is currently popular in the news media, on meme sites like Tailrank or on blog search engines like Technorati to capitalize on attention.

Life Blogging
Also called reality blogging, this involves a blog post sharing the story of something that happened to you in your personal life.

Announcement Blogging
Breaking news about an announcement or news that was not previously available elsewhere. For maximum effect, being the first to break the news matters most.

Video Blogging
Creating original video and putting it online in a blog post or embedding a video from YouTube or another video sharing site into a post and commenting on it. Ratings are based on creating original video for blog posts.

Review Blogging
Offer your expertise or personal opinion to review a product or service and share an honest assessment. This type of blogging can be solicited or done independently.

List Blogging
This is the highly popular format of the top ten (or any other number) lists about something. Blog posts in this type of format are frequently bookmarked and shared.

Feature Blogging
