Beautiful Beaches, Pulsating Lifestyle And Tourism – University City Barcelona

Continuing with our series on the public universities in Spain, this time we wade through Barcelona. Barcelona is the largest city and the capital of Catalonia. This region is also autonomous and the two official languages are Catalan and Spanish. However, English is spoken by many of the locals. The region has France and Andorra in the north and the mediterranean Sea on its east.

This city which did not have a single beach until as late as 1992, today boasts of almost 5 kilometres of beaches which are considered among the best in the world, all artificially created.

The city although always important, found even more prominence after they hosted the Olympics. Today, Barcelona is among those cities that never sleep and is a major hub for tourism.

Another interesting fact about Barcelona is the planning of the city which is like a grid. This attracts architects and building and city planners from different parts of the world.

The same as most cities in Europe, Barcelona is also rich in history and monuments. The city is also famous for its street food and there are several street food markets with many shops that are open through the night. The food served in these markets is delicious and affordable. One such street food market is in what is called the Monument Club which is an ancient bullring. These markets find favour not only with tourists but also with foreign students and the locals.

Cost of Living

Living in this city is not cheap by any standards and you must budget for around 1300 $ or a little more, apart from your fees, to meet your monthly expense which would include a shared accommodation. The cost of living index says about 740$ without accommodation and this is about right.

Students easily get around the city using public transport which is the metro, buses and tram.

As usual we would suggest you go through the websites of each of the universities to determine the courses most suited to your inspirations:
