A Good Selection of True Stories for the Weekend

For this weekend we have selected movies from a very popular category "True story". A historical drama about a Russian Czarina, a war film, one crazy comedy from life and a story that's unbelievable but true. Enjoy.

Calendar Girls
Village women in their middle years posing nude for a calendar. Chris Harper played by Helen Mirren is bored to death with the meaningless women’s meetings at the association and decides to raise money through posing nude with the rest of her friends for a memorial for her husband who’s passed away from cancer. And she actually does it, to the consternation of the husbands and many others. Very well supported by the rest of the starcast.

The Glass Castle
Another true story about a brilliant but an alcoholic man, his wife who refuses to follow norms and their four children. While sober the father is a larger than life personality who encourages his children to live life in its many dimensions and when drunk he’s just another alcoholic destroying his family. The story brillaintly portrays how the children survive the ordeal of growing up and turning into happy productive people.

Catherine the Great
A highly rated film based on the life of the unknown princess who became the powerful Empress of Russia. Helen Mirren as usual has done an exceptional job.

Apocalypse Now
Captain Willard played by Martin Sheen goes on a mission to Cambodia to kill the rebel colonel played by Marlon Brando. The colonel has made himself a kind of a god and rules over a tribe. Both Marlon Brando and the young Martin Sheen have excelled.
