Often named one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and rightfully so, is the Bay of Kotor. Also known as the ‘jewel of the Montenegrin crown’. Kotor Bay is known for its lively atmosphere, stunning architecture, and beautiful landscape that is surrounded by hills. Streaming rivers flowing through the mountains and the inviting nature of locals make it the place to be if you want a relaxing time in the Balkan region. The main town in the bay is Kotor and it attracts thousands of tourists each year, making it the main tourist destination in the country. The main attraction of the Kotor city is the Cathedral of St. Trifona which is the oldest cathedral in Europe.

An area of 475 km² is a lake that sometimes goes below sea level and is known for its unique flora and fauna. Lake Skadar is truly a paradise for birdwatching because this is the place where you can see the only surviving pelican species in Europe — the Dalmatian pelicans. Montenegro is also home to the longest canyon in Europe, the Tara River Canyon. Located at Durmitor National Park, the canyon has a depth of 1300 meters and is truly an incredible sight to see.

Montenegro’s coastline is still an undiscovered hidden gem on the Adriatic coast, unlike neighboring Croatia’s. Just like its natural diversity, Montenegro has a variety of beautiful beaches that are both pebbly and sandy. In the stunning Kotor region you can find pebbles and mountainous scenery behind, on the other side near Budva and Ulcinj you can enjoy a few kilometers of long sandy beaches. In total, there are 117 stunning beaches you can choose from, which means that you will definitely not be out of options while holidaying in Montenegro. Best of all, the crystal clear turquoise sea water will make it hard to leave the beautiful Montenegrin coast.

The name of the country which in translation means Black Mountain derived from the fact that 80% of the country is made up of mountains. One look at Montenegro will definitely make you see it. Among some of the best places for hiking, you can find Prokletije, Komovi, and Rumija mountains, and the Durmitor National Park which is loved by experienced hikers.
