Every October movie lovers are on the lookout for some horror gems to fill this month with spookiness. Besides moody music and podcasts, films are the best way to get into the Halloween spirit as far as media is concerned. Quite a few good scary films have come out in 2022 already, and a few are about to during October as well. So, here is a list of five scary films, new and old, to get you prepped up for Halloween.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)

Halina Rejin’s Bodies Bodies Bodies is a very intriguing horror, comedy film. It has all the things you need to enjoy yourself with friends on a movie night. Social commentary, very funny non-surface-level jokes, and of course, lots of fun kills. There is also a mystery aspect at the core of it, so now that the movie is available for purchase just in time for Halloween, Bodies Bodies Bodies is a great option for the spooky month.

Trick r’ Treat (2007)

Perhaps the most classic film on the list, Trick r’ Treat is a true gem. Though within the horror-loving community the film does receive its rightful praise, there are still too many people out there who haven’t seen this great film. There is no movie perfect to watch on the night of October 31st. Just watch out for Sam, because he might get angry at you if you don’t appreciate Trick r’ Treat enough. You’ll get this reference once you’ve seen the film, don’t worry.

Nope (2022)

Jordan Peele has made a name for himself now with three great horror films in a row. Get Out, Us, and now Nope is all great films to watch during October. His latest release is Nope, a thoughtful, scary film that came out earlier this year. This isn’t just a popcorn flick, although the action and the cinematography are stellar, it’s deep in levels you won’t see coming.

Scream (1996)

Naturally, the Scream franchise is closely tied to Halloween. There are now five films total for you to enjoy, with the latest entry titled similarly Scream, having come out this January. If you are looking for a horror marathon, one that’s not too heavy but includes fun and comedy as well, Scream is exactly what you’re looking for. Some films like the first and fourth ones are much better than others, the second and third really are mediocre. But, that being said, you can never go wrong with clicking play on Scream, any of the five.

The Exorcist (1973)

One of the most classic films in general of all time, The Exorcist is an obvious pick for Halloween time. A lot of what is considered cliché nowadays in horror films comes from this film. An incredibly successful film during its theatre run, if your local cinemas are playing as a throwback The Exorcist again this year, don’t miss out. This is an incredible film that’s much deeper than the usual horror. The roots that this film has set in the horror world are endless. If you somehow haven’t seen The Exorcist yet, do yourself a favor and don’t let October pass by without seeing this masterpiece.
