5 Movies to Watch During the Holiday Season for Self-Empowerment

It is that time of the year, when all we want to do is snuggle in a warm blanket and watch the same Holiday movies we have watched a thousand times before. Here’s my top 5 list of them.

There are many reasons why we tend to go back to the same movies we have watched several times before. Studies say that because we know how they end, we are provided with a sense of certainty and reassurance. We’re not suffering from the crippling anxiety of what will happen in the end – because we already know the end.

There are even Christmas holiday movie scripts I’ve learned by heart.

So if you share the same spirit, take a look at my recommendations for movies to see during this holiday season. All of the movies I have listed below are available on Netflix!

Eat, Pray, Love

Every time I want to encourage myself to try new things, get out of my comfort zone or to simply trust my intuition, I go back to this amazing story of Julia Roberts conquering the world on a spiritual journey. Of course, I know I won’t have the luxury of quitting my job to travel the world but hey, a girl can dream—— and that’s what movies are for!

The Holiday

This one is especially recommended to you if you want to see people who have gotten out of their dull day-to-day routines and have decided to explore new horizons. Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet will wisely walk you throughout breaking old patterns and becoming more accepting towards new perspectives, as they exchange their lives for a few days and encounter many wonderful surprises as they do so.

Notting Hill

Yes, Julia Roberts again, because she is simply extraordinary and all good-old classics inevitably include her. This 90’s movie will awaken your belief in true love, and it will add a sense of admiration for the simple life of William, played by Hugh Grant, who happens to fall in love with a famous actress that is out of his league – or so he thinks.

13 going 30

I don’t know why, but watching this movie for so many times now, makes me go back to the warm fuzzy feelings of being a teenager – eager to become a grown up. Jokes on me, because the situation is vice versa now, however, Jenna empowers us to think that there’s still time to change.

Wild

Reese Witherspoon is fearless in this movie. Driven by the loss of her beloved mother, the dissolution of her marriage and a headlong dive into self-destructive behavior, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) makes a decision to start putting back together the pieces of her life again. She does this by starting to hike alone the Pacific Crest Trail, with no outdoors experience, a heavy backpack and little else to go on but her own will. If this plot does not scream power, I don’t know what does.
