Romantic Movies For The Christmas Holidays

The end of December is generally a leisurely time of the year. So is the pick of movies for this festive weekend. Romantic films from the decades. We hope you'll enjoy them all.

Romeo and Juliet (1968)
Here we begin with a classic Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet from 1968 is in many aspects the most outstanding adaptation of the tale. Not only is the whole film set as a theatre play, the characters also speak medieval English – which lets face it – is a bit of a challenge. To top it up – rumours say the two main actors did actually fall in love during the making of this film. What more could the director wish for? When there’s a chemistry between those who play the leading roles, they emote better.

The Way we were (1973)
Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford are an uneasy couple walking through the eventful decades in America and dealing with each others contrasting personalities.

Falling in Love (1984)
Delicately made film about two people who tend to keep crossing paths until they finally notice each other and develop deep feelings for each other. Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are in the key roles of this love story from 1980s.

Oma maa (Land of Hope) (2018)
Jumping five decades from our first movie pick and paradoxically going back a few decades when this movie is set, this is a love story showing the events following WWII in Finland. A well off girl falls in love with a wounded unpretentious soldier and is willing to step out from her comfortable lifestyle to deal with some unimaginable obstacles of life.
