Zambian University increases registration fees by over 100 percent
Zambia Reports magazine announced that the Copperbelt University, Zambian University, (CBU) increased the registration fees by more than 100 percent for the new academic year.
Considering that Zambia faces many economic challenges, students protested against the decision. Additionally, they appealed to the government to resolve the issue.
One of the students said: “As a concerned student I feel this issue should be looked into immediately because it is disadvantaging most of the students if not all looking at how the events in the university have occurred.
I am kindly appealing to our Honourable Minister of Higher Education Brian Mushimba to intervene in this issue on behalf of students.”
Disability services units set up at five Malaysian universities
Malaysiakini reports that five Malaysian universities set up disability services unit. These universities are Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The Ministry of Education launched the Disabled Person (OKU) Inclusion Policy in September this year. Education Minister Maszlee Malik stated: “We will make sure that we lay a strong and solid foundation for the betterment of the future for the disabled at the institutes of higher learning.”
