World Health Organization Summer Internship in Oman

University students and recent graduates are invited to apply for a paid internship in Muscat, Oman. The three-month internship will focus on contributing to the efforts of the WHO in addressing the COVID-19 outbreak and Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) interventions.

 

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. WHO works with 194 member states, across six regions, in a shared commitment to achieve better health around the world. Interns will conduct literature surveys in relation to COVID-19 and AMR and develop tools and guidelines related to the modeling exercises for projection of epidemiological curve and resources requirements. By the end of the program, interns will have a better understanding of the WHO emergency preparedness and response work.

Interns receive a stipend. The exact amount of the stipend will be calculated for each intern after selection, based on a financial disclosure form that they will complete. WHO is also providing all interns with an accident and medical insurance coverage. The initial start date is 1st of June 2020, subject to change at further notice.

The deadline is on 4 May 2020.

 

Main criteria

  • Candidates should be either enrolled in an undergraduate degree program or have graduated within six months prior to the internship
  • Interns need to be familiar with commonly used computer programmes, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of specialized computer programmes, for example, statistical software such as XLStat may be an advantage
  • Expert knowledge of Arabic and English is required
  • Intermediate knowledge of other UN language is an asset
