UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowships Programme

If you are a researcher aged up to 40, apply to the UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Research Fellowships Programme, an initiative financed by the Government of Japan. The programme is the framework of the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Capacity Building of Human Resources which was established in 2000. The deadline is on November 30th.

The Government of Japan offers ten fellowships, to be awarded to candidates from developing countries, special attention wll be given to those who may wish to pursue their research studies in Japan, to women, candidates from the least developed countries, Africa, and DCs, Africa, and Small Island Developing States.

Particular areas of research include environment (with attention on disaster risk reduction), intercultural dialogue, information and communication technologies, and peaceful conflict resolution.

The fellowship will consist of a $10,000 contribution.

Main criteria

  • Candidates should be post-graduate researchers already holding a Master’s degree and wishing to pursue research work abroad;
  • Candidates must be born after 1 January 1978;
  • Candidates must be proficient in reading and writing the language of instruction in the proposed country of study/research;
  • Duration of proposed research is from three to nine months.
