The HOPE Challenge – an Entrepreneurial Competition for Middle Schoolers

A student-run nonprofit organization based in Seattle is inviting middle school students to take part in a global entrepreneurship competition. As part of The HOPE Challenge, teams produce a video pitching their solution to address a problem caused by COVID-19. Cash Prizes include up to $200.

The HOPE challenge is organized by Seattle Advocates of Education (SAFE). This certified nonprofit is dedicated to fighting education disparity throughout the greater Seattle area. Throughout the year, they offer numerous affordable weekly classes and summer programs for middle school students which each covers different topics, such as coding, drawing, and creative writing.

This opportunity is aiming to help students blend their entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual curiosity to promote positive change. Students are expected to submit an elevator pitch video (1-3 minutes) proposing their product or service. The prompt for the challenge is to Develop a solution that seeks to solve an arising problem that COVID-19 has created.

HOPE stands for Helping Our Passions Emerge and is designed to provide an opportunity for students to learn entrepreneurship by allowing their ideas to come to life. Students can work in teams of up to four people. The winning teams will receive $200, $125, and $75 prizes while three other teams will receive an Honorable Mention and $25 Prize.

The deadline is on 15 July 2020.

 

Main criteria

Middle school students from anywhere in the world are invited to submit their short elevator pitch videos on developing solutions to COVID-19 related problems. The competition is free of change. Consider covering the following points in your video:

  • What problem are you solving?
  • What is your solution to the problem?
  • How is your solution unique? What value do you offer to customers?
  • What are the main features of your solution?
  • Who is your target customer?
  • How do you plan on marketing?
