The Getty Foundation Funded Residence

Scholars pursuing their career in the arts, humanities, or social studies are invited to participate in a residence programme by Getty Foundation.

The placement lasts from three to nine months and fellows receive a stipend of up to $65,000. The deadline is on Friday 1st October 2021.

The Getty Foundation, based in Los Angeles, California at the Getty Center, awards grants for “the understanding and preservation of the visual arts”. The grants are for established scholars, or individuals who have attained distinction in their fields.

Recipients may be in residence at the Getty Research Institute or Getty Villa, where they pursue their own projects free from work-related obligations, make use of Getty collections, etc.

Fellows will benefit from airfare to and from Los Angeles, housing, and an available healthcare option.

Getty Scholars may be in residence from three to nine months:

  •     Three-month residency: September to December, January to April, April to June: $21,500
  •     Six-month residency: September to April, January to June: $43,000
  •     Nine-month residency: September to June: $65,000

Applications are evaluated based on the overall quality of the application, how the proposed project bears upon the annual research theme, and the applicant’s past achievements.

The deadline is on Friday 1st October 2021.

 

Main Criteria

Applications are welcome from researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

Applicants are required to complete and submit the online Getty Scholar grant application form. Each application must include a description of the applicant’s proposed plan for study and research.

A CV and optional writing samples are required.
