Government plans to set up three universities in Pakistan
Three universities will be set up by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in Mardan, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan. This news was revealed by Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani who is Advisor to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister on Higher Education. DI Khan Agricultural University, Mardan Englineering University and University of Lakki Marwat will be important for the development of the entire province and this news will be greeted with joy by thousands of students.
Spanish Government takes control of Catalonian universities
Following the region’s unilateral declaration of independence, Spanish government decided to take over responsibility for research and higher education in Catalonia. The region has been in political turmoil ever since controversial vote on independence was taken. Universities in Catalonia have a strong reputation in European circles. European Research Council gave 210 grants for its universities, totalling 334 million Euros. Researchers based in Catalan institutions also won 10 of the 22 ERC starting grants in Spain. The latest decision means that the Spanish government will now be able to make decisions affecting universities and research centres in Catalonia.
Public and private universities under one network
Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) has dedicated itself to bring all medical colleges and all the universities across the country under one, common network. “We have become able to establish connections among the universities which have been benefitting the students, teachers and researchers across the country”, said University Grants Commission Chairman Abdul Mannan. In this way, students and teachers will be able to establish better coordination among them, and an excuse of limited resources will no longer be used.
