70 musicians from 44 countries and territories are invited to join OneBeat Virtual residency in either the summer or fall 2021. Over the course of eight weeks, fellows will investigate new forms of virtual collaboration, form ensembles to write, produce, and perform genre-defying work, and attend virtual masterclasses and open-studios. The deadline is on Wednesday March 10th 2021.
OneBeat is an initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in collaboration with the New York-based music organization Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation.
OneBeat employs collaborative original music as a potent new form of cultural diplomacy.
The structure of the program is broken down into three parts: a five-day opening intensive, six-weeks of ensemble/small group work and independent work, and a five-day closing intensive and showcase.
A typical week will include two half-day work sessions and one short (60-90 min) full group meeting.
There is no cost to fellows for participation in the program. Fellows will receive a $1,500 stipend for participation in the virtual exchange.
The programme will also provide a per diem for the scheduled synchronous (online) sessions.
OneBeat Virtual offers selected fellows a chance to create new material, establish lifelong musical partnerships and friendships, learn new marketable skills, and develop professional connections.
The deadline is on Wednesday March 10th 2021.
Main Criteria
Participants should have a basic grasp of English in order to participate in ensembles and creative sessions.
The programme is looking for musicians who have a strong commitment to their communities and who are seeking new ways to engage in youth development, music education, music therapy, conflict resolution, engage in a global dialogue through music, and other ways contributing to civil society and civic discourse.
