According to a recent study by Interativa, only 4% of the Brazilian youth don’t access the Internet on a daily basis. This is not very surprising since 59% of children and teenagers between 10 and 14 years of age reportedly own a smartphone in the country’s richer south region, according to a study conducted in 2013 by the National Survey of Households.

A recent study about young people and their online habits featured participants between 25 and 35 years of age (45%), between 20 and 24 (32%) and between 15 and 19 years (23%). More men took part in the survey than women (51% and 49%).

The results show that young people in Brazil use more than one means of communication in their daily life, such as a smartphone or tablet (61%). The vast majority of them use such means to access social media (90%).

The rest of online activities include finding information (84%), following the news (74%), watching videos on YouTube (71%), listening to music (64%) and managing emails (61%). Only 17% of respondents use Internet for shopping.

While an overwhelming majority of young Brazilians own a smartphone or a laptop (82% and 96%), only 12% own a television. They seem to prefer watching TV shows and movies online rather than on TV.

Interestingly, many of Brazilians believe that online banners contain important information (44%). When it comes to emails, 40% of respondents stated they had two, while 96% have a Facebook account; 88% of them have a Facebook app installed in their smartphone.

Majority of respondents stated they are permanently logged in rather on WhatsApp (59%) than on Facebook Messenger (47%), which indicates the app’s popularity in Brazil.
