Summer is finally here, and it wouldn’t be complete without music, concerts, and performances. In the USA, the first weekend of the month begins with various 4th of July performances in celebration of American Independence Day. This month you can look forward to free virtual events that feature various genres of music and unique shows including puppetry and magic. Plus, you can enjoy live-streams of real-life fireworks! Tune in, enjoy the heat, and stay safe.
Backyard Music Festival – July 3rd
Caroga Arts is organizing an amazing virtual event that will be streamed on YouTube and Facebook Live at 5 PM EDT. This will be the first time that 30 musicians from the Caroga Arts Ensemble will perform Tchaikovky’s 1812 Overture together. You can also look forward to hearing Taylor Swift’s music director and renowned jazz pianist David Cook.
Some other performers include Ethan Uslan, Scott Joplin, a Vocal Quartet, Andy Liang, and Aaron Schwartz. The concert will be free, but donations are encouraged to help the Caroga Arts Collective to continue to revitalize local culture, business, and life by providing unique experiences through collaborative performances, community engagement, and education.
United We Stand | Music to Connect Us – July 3rd
The US Army Band is hosting free virtual performances every few days. On July 3rd, the band known as “Pershing’s Own” will host an event as a salute to America on its birthday! You can join on Facebook and watch live at 4PM EDT. You can also find past performances on the page and enjoy these wonderful bands.
Levitt Shell Virtual Concert Series – July 3rd
Levitt Shell presents more than 50 free concerts every year. Their mission is to build community through music and education, finding common ground in a diverse audience. This July they will present weekly virtual concerts every Friday at 7:30PM CDT. You can enjoy their events on their Facebook page.
This Friday’s event features the Patriotic Pops. It was originally recorded on June 29th in 2018. The upcoming performances include Aztec Sun, The Bo-Keys with Don Bryant, Trout Steak Revival, and The Wealthy West.
A Capitol Fourth – July 4th
On July 4th, America will celebrate its Independence Day. This year, the USA’s 244th birthday is an event that the world can enjoy virtually with A Capitol Fourth. This virtual presentation will feature new performances from iconic US locations including Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Nashville, and Los Angeles. There will also be some nostalgic highlights from the past 40 years of this annual, 90-minute event.
Since this is part of the July 4th celebration, there will also be a live broadcast of real fireworks displays. Some of the performers to look forward to include Patti LaBelle, John Fogerty, Renée Fleming, The Temptations, Andy Grammer, Tracy Adkins, the National Symphony Orchestra, and many other wonderful musicians. Tune in at 8 PM EST!
Summertime with Beethoven – July 5th
Summertime with Beethoven: Vivaldi, Gershwin, and the “Spring Sonata” will take place on July 5th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM GMT+1. The two-hour event will feature Orpheus Leander playing the violin and Gina Kruger playing the piano. To join this free event, you need to mark yourself as attending on meetup.com to receive the link.
Orpheus Leander is the leader of the Orfeas String Quartet and the artistic director of the Music of the Spheres Ensemble. He also performs as a solo artist. Gina Kruger studied piano at the Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, and Columbia University. Then she completed her post-graduate diploma at the Royal College of Music, London. She performs as an accompanist across the UK and also as a soloist.
Music for Mary O’s – July 7th
Live streaming from 7 PM until 10 PM EST, Music at Mary O’s will feature 15 musicians on Facebook. These three hours of music are presented by Roomful of Sky Music & Victor V. Gurbo. Roomful of Sky is dedicated to organizing live events in NYC. For now, they are offering three fresh music acts with performances every third Saturday of the month.
Mind on Fire Virtual Variety Show – July 11th
Taking place on July 11th from 2:30 to 4:30 PM EDT, Mind on Fire Virtual Variety Show will live stream. The link will be provided before the virtual event, and you can sign up to get notified in advance. The show will present 11 short, diverse art performances featuring music, poetry, prose, improvisation, opera, puppetry, song, and space in collaboration with the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
Some of the performers will include R. Eric Thomas, Rahne Alexander, Jenny Hughson, Jamal Moore, Robin Rhodes, Taylor Boykins, Peter Redgrave, Nick Cohen, Stephanie Ray, Randi Roberts, Liz Downing, and Ty Page. The event is completely free and open to the public.
Sunday Twilight Concert Series – July 12th
The first of weekly Sunday Twilight Concert Series will begin on July 12th and will end on August 30th. Each week they will present a different genre of music from local and regional acts. The virtual events will live-stream from 7:30 to 9 PM CDT on Facebook. They will kick off the season with a performance by The Jones Assembly.
Downtown Sounds Virtual Concert – July 17th
The Downtown Sounds Virtual Concert will take place on July 17th from 05:30 PM – 09:30 PM EST and will be streamed on Facebook. This event, celebrating the city of Shelton in Connecticut, features The Alpacas, Gnomes, and Kids Hour with Danny Magic. There will be more special music guests that will be announced soon!
Music and performing arts have been a keystone of our society for as long as we can remember. Today’s impressive technology allows us to fill our lives with concerts and shows of all genres broadcast from anywhere in the world. This month we can enjoy everything from classical piano to indie bands and even virtual magic shows. These free virtual events are a great example of human creativity, community, and passion for music.
