Large number of vacancies at Indian universities
The latest government data has shown that there is large number of vacancices at the Indian institutions of higher education, reports Catch News. The HRD Ministry stated that there is total number of 17106 teachers in 40 Central Universities, and 5997 posts or 35 per cent of them are lying vacant. Additionally, posts of 8 Vice Chancellors in 41 CUs are also lying vacant. Indira Gandhi National Open University has 181 vacancies, 20 Indian Institute of Management have 273 vacancies, and in 7 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore have 153 vacancies. This data shows an improvement in comparison to two years ago when the vacancies were at around 40 per cent.
Czech universities get more money for postgraduates
Education Minister Robert Plaga stated that Czech publich universities will receive 50 per cent higher contribution for postgraduate students this year, reports Prague Monitor. The state will increase the usual payment of 90,000 crowns a year per postgraduate student to 135,000 crowns a year. Plaga added that ministry would like to see improvement of conditions and quality of postgraduates’ lives in the next few years and that he hopes that universities will find additional funds to pay postgraduates an even higher monthly salary. Czech Postgraduates’ Association head Katerina Cidlinska stated that sum is still not sufficient, while the head of the Student Chamber of the Council of Universities Michal Zuma said he appreciates the contribution, but still thinks that sum is not ideal.
