Internship At The International Press Institute In Vienna

The International Press Institute welcomes applications from candidates interested in non-paid internships in the press freedom and communications department at Vienna Secretariat. Candidates should be highly motivated and have a keen interest in human rights, particularly press freedom. There is no particular deadline, IPI accepts internship applications on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, monitoring issues and developments (both positive and negative) impacting press freedom around the world; drafting press freedom statements; researching press freedom topics and drafting reports; contributing to IPI’s projects, campaigns and publications; interacting with IPI and other media stakeholders; and increasing IPI’s exposure using social networking tools.

IPI internships are a demanding position and require a high degree of initiative and an ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment.

Interns must be available to work at least two days a week, for a term of two to three months, and must possess excellent interpersonal skills. IPI accepts internship applications on a rolling basis.

Main criteria

  • Undergraduate or graduate-level students, or recent graduates seeking work experience in an international human rights NGO environment;
  • Strong command of English, both verbal and written.
  • Candidates with additional knowledge of other languages – particularly Turkic, Slavic or Arabic – are preferred;
  • IPI is particularly interested in candidates with a strong command of social media and its use as a tool for communicating news and IPI’s work.
