International Linguistics Olympiad in Latvia: Call for Volunteers

International Linguistics Olympiad in Ventspils, Latvia opens the application call for volunteers to guide and help one country's team during the Olympiad on 20-24 July 2020. Registration is open until March 15th, 2020.

This summer, the best student linguists from all over the world will come together to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad. And in order to help organizers smoothly run such a massive competition, volunteers are encouraged to apply.

 

The deadline is on 15 March 2020.

The competition will take place on 20-24 July 2020 in Ventspils, Latvia.

The Olympiad includes six hours of solving problems in the main fields of theoretical, mathematical and applied linguistics – phonetics, morphology, semantics, syntax, sociolinguistics, etc., individually and a three to four-hour-long team contest.

Teams, which generally consist of four students, represent more than 50 countries.

As a volunteer, your main task will be to guide and help one country’s team during the Olympiad.

Accommodation and food will be provided for volunteers. Travel, visa, and insurance expenses are at the expense of the volunteers.

Main criteria

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old
  • Candidates need to indicate their availability on 20-26 July 2020 as well as choose the language(s) they can work in: Latvian, English, Russian, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Lithuanian, Estonian, or any other.

Candidates will be evaluated based on their motivation letter and previous volunteering experience.
