Journalists from Germany, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are invited to take part in a paid work placement program from April to May 2020. Candidates will receive 3,800 euro to offset the accommodation and travel costs. The deadline is on 15 November 2020.
International Journalists’ Programmes is a non-profit organisation offering exchange programmes for early and mid-career journalists between Germany and more than 50 countries. These programmes enable participants to experience their host countries from a correspondent’s perspective. So far, similar programmes have been set up for journalists from Germany and the U.S.A., the U.K., the Netherlands, Turkey, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Russia, Southern Africa, the Middle East, Poland and Central-Eastern Europe.
Journalists from all six countries gain personal experience and professional insight of the political landscape, the economy, and of the everyday life in the host country. Participants from the Northern countries meet opinion- and decision-makers in Germany, the largest country in the European Union. The scholarship programme starts in April 2020 with a three-day introduction conference in one of the Nordic capitals or Berlin. Immediately afterwards, the participating journalists will take up their internships at the host media. If necessary, changes to the schedule can be discussed, due to individual needs. The host media will be selected by the IJP according to the interests and qualifications of the bursary recipients. Each scholar will receive a single payment of 3,800 Euro to cover a part of travel expenses, accommodation and personal expenses during their stay in Germany.

Main criteria
The application is open to any journalist from the Nordic or the Baltic countries aged between 18 and 40, working for any print, radio or TV media (employed or freelancer). The applicant should have some knowledge of the German language, although fluent German is not expected. At least workable knowledge of English is essential.
Applications should include:
- CV, including a photograph
- letter of recommendation by an editor, supporting the application
- four written samples of work (TV and radio journalists are asked to send a comprehensive list of contributions)
- preferences of host media outlets and of host regions (i.e. Munich) in Germany.
