Apply for Getty Scholar Grans

The Getty Foundation fulfills the philanthropic mission of the Getty Trust by supporting individuals and institutions committed to advancing the greater understanding and preservation of the visual arts in Los Angeles and throughout the world.

Through strategic grant initiatives, it strengthens art history as a global discipline, promotes the interdisciplinary practice of conservation, and increases access to museum and archival collections.

Getty Scholar Grants apply for the residence from three to nine months. Depending on the duration, scholars will receive appropriate funding. Three-month residencies take place from September to December, from January to April, or from April to June and the stipend amounts to $21,500.

Six-month residencies are from September to April or from January to June with the total funding of $43,000. Nine-month residency stipend is $65,000 and the placement takes place annually from September to June.

The grant also includes an office at the Getty Research Institute or the Getty Villa, an apartment in the Getty scholar housing complex, airfare to and from Los Angeles, and an available healthcare option.

Applications are evaluated based on the overall quality of the application, applicant’s past achievements and how the proposed project bears upon the annual research theme.

The deadline is on 1 October 2020.
