Would you like start your career in the UN, but don't know how? The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative for talented, highly qualified professionals to become an international civil servant with the United Nations Secretariat. It consists of an entrance examination and professional development programmes once successful candidates start their career with the UN.
You will have to take few steps in order to get to the examination.
First, read the job opening for the exam area you are interested in and make sure you fulfil the requirements. The list of job openings can be found on the YPP Home page.
Basic criteria are:
- Nationality of a participating country.
- At least a first-level university degree relevant for the exam area you are applying for.
- 32 y.o. or younger by the end of the examination.
- Fluent in either English or/and French.
Second, apply to the selected job opening through Inspira. Additional guidelines on creating applications are available by clicking on the “Manuals and Help’’ link found in the upper right-hand corner. Third, your application will be screened to determine if you are eligible for the examination in the exam area you applied for. If your application was successful, you will be informed that you are convoked to the examination.
The YPP examination is held once a year and is open to nationals of countries participating in the annual recruitment exercise. The list of participating countries is published annually and varies from year to year.
The date of the exam may vary from place. For example in the Czech Republic it will be held 15th of December. You may check the date for your area here.
