Foreign universities allowed to open branches in Saudi Arabia
Arab News reports that foreign universities are now allowed to open branches, campuses in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Cabinet’s decision was widely welcomed by both students and education experts.
Dr. Taghreed Al-Saraj said: “This competition will lead to an improvement in the quality of education.
That is what all we want.
It’s a very smart move.” Abdan Alabdan, who is the government scholarship holder, said: “It’s a positive and progressive step, and it will give a chance to those who can’t study abroad to study in such universities at home.”
The government initiative will begin with three foreign universities, which have not yet been named.
The growth of corporate universities in China
Global Times reports that in the past years, there has been a significant rise of universities set-up by enterprises, also known as corporate universities.
In 2012, there were in total 1,186 of corporate universities, and in 2019, the number surpassed 3,000.
For instance, Qinteng University was set up by Tencent in 2015 and they stated that this university is the “only company-level university focused on founders and entrepreneurs that is committed to providing a lifelong learning platform for the creators of cutting-edge industries.’’
Lately, university has also been established by the company named Meituan Dianping, which the largest food delivery app in the country.
Liu Dingding, a Beijing-based independent industry analyst, said: “Corporate universities are not traditional universities, and they are not parallel to the current education system.
They intend to train and develop people that can really be used for work and production, and are more practical rather than theoretical.”
Turkish university opens its facilities in Syria
Al-Monitor reports that Gazientep University has decided to allow the enrollment process for Syrian students in the Aleppo countryside.
Turkish President granted the permission to open the Islamic Sciences Faculty, the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Education Faculty.
The opening ceremony was held at the facilities in Al-Bab.
Gaziantep University’s President Ali Kour held a speech and talked about the need to raise living standards and sacred right to education
