A record number of students (11,180 of them) went through clearing on the result day, Ucas figures show, reports the Telegraph. By offering laptops, cash bonuses, gym membership and free flights via Snapchat and WhatsApp to lure as many students as possible, universities are trying to maximize their income. Students can apply for courses by clearing up any time to September 2. The dip in applications was caused by a significant drop in the number of EU students and the decline in the youth population.
