Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence 2021

Visual artists, literary artists, dancers, and musicians are invited to compete for a $10,000 award to complete a four-week fellowship in Virginia, USA. Applicants should be developing new works that address plants, gardens, or landscapes in the broad sense. The deadline is on 12 August 2020.

The Oak Spring Garden Foundation is an operating foundation dedicated to sharing the ideas of Rachel Mellon. She was an American horticulturalist who designed and planted a number of significant gardens, including the White House Rose Garden. Its mission is to support and inspire fresh thinking and bold action on the history and future of plants, including the art and culture of plants, gardens and landscapes.

Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence 2021 is open to visual artists, literary artists, dancers, and musicians. The award includes a $10,000 individual grant and requires a two-to-four-week stay at Oak Spring. This fellowship will be granted to an exceptional artist who shows remarkable promise to contribute to a deeper understanding of the natural world, and humankind’s place in it. The Fellow will reside in a nicely appointed, self-catering accommodation during their time at Oak Spring.  They will have a private bedroom and bathroom and share a living room and kitchen. The only requirement during their time at Oak Spring will be to give one 45-minute presentation with time for questions, to Oak Spring staff and any other fellows or residents who might be on site.

The deadline is on 12 August 2020.

 

Main criteria

  • Eligible candidates are early-career artists not enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in 2021
  • The successful fellow must be self-directed and able to work independently while on site.
  • Applicants should provide their CV, a 200 – 300-word statement regarding their artistic practice and five images or videos of work that best convey their current artistic interests
