Hodder Fellowship for Artists and Writers

The Lewis Center for the Arts is home to Princeton’s academic programs in Creative Writing, Dance, Theater, Music Theater, and Visual Arts, as well as the interdisciplinary Princeton Atelier. Together with partners across campus, the Lewis Center puts the creative and performing arts at the heart of the Princeton experience. Potential Hodder Fellowship is for composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers or other kinds of artists or humanists who have much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts; they are selected more for promise than for performance.

Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields. The Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with a year of “studious leisure” to undertake significant new work. $84,000 is awarded for one 10-month academic year.

The deadline is on 15 September 2020.

Main criteria

• The program is open to US and international composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers or other kinds of artists or humanists
• Advanced degrees are preferred, although not required for the participants
• This fellowship cannot be used to fund work leading to a Ph.D. or any other advanced degree
• Application includes a completed electronic application, resume and a project proposal of 500 words
