International university students are invited to receive full scholarships and develop their German language skills at a state-recognized institution in Germany. Studies take place for at least 18 weeks from June to November. The deadline is on 1 December 2020.
The DAAD is the world’s largest funding organisation for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, around 2.6 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. Its budget is derived mainly from the federal funding for various ministries, primarily the German Federal Foreign Office, but also from the European Union and a number of enterprises. DAAD German Language Summer Courses aim to help students and graduates improve their knowledge of German (general language, special language) and their cultural knowledge of the country.
The program funds attendance of language and area studies courses as well as special language and terminology courses that are offered by state or state-recognised German universities and by affiliated language schools. The courses run for at least 18 teaching days with a minimum of 25 hours of teaching a week. Studies usually take place in the period from June to November. Grantees receive a one-off scholarship payment of 1,061 euros; scholarship holders from least developed countries receive a scholarship of 1,236 euros. Additionally, there are payments provided to cover travel and insurance. Candidates should demonstrate previous academic achievements and convincing motivation for choice of study programs and subjects.
The deadline is on 1 December 2020.
Main criteria
Applications are open to students in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in any subject area. Bachelor students must have completed at least two academic years at the start of the scholarship period. Applicants must be able to follow lectures in German and collaborate in teams.
Proof of German language skills must be provided with the application. The language certificate should be no more than two years old at the time of application. The following language certificates are generally accepted: onSET-Deutsch, TestDaF, Goethe Institut-Nachweis, DSD, DSH, telc Deutsch, ÖSD-Zertifikat, German Abitur (only for technical specialised language courses).
