DAAD Development-Related Postgraduate Scholarships

Recent graduates and professionals with at least two years’ experience are invited to apply for the fully funded scholarship to pursue Master or Doctorate level studies at a German university. Scholars will receive funding to cover their living expenses, travel, and, in some cases, accommodation. For most programs, applications are accepted from August to October 2020.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Apply for postgraduate scholarships: With its development-oriented postgraduate study programmes, the DAAD promotes the training of specialists from development and newly industrialised countries.

The scholarships offer foreign graduates from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

Graduate students and doctorate candidates will receive monthly payments of EUR 850 and EUR 1,200 respectively.

Additional funding will be provided to cover travel and payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance. In some cases, candidates may receive monthly rent subsidy and allowance for accompanying members of their family.

Funding is available for up to 36 months depending on the study program.

Candidates are expected to fulfil the necessary academic requirements and successfully complete a study programme with above-average result for the first academic exam and demonstrated language skills.

For most programs, applications are accepted from August to October 2020.

 

Main criteria

Candidates should have a Bachelor degree and at least two years’ professional experience. Candidates should demonstrate their motivation is development-related and be expected to take on social responsibility and initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after their training/scholarship.
