Young people and NGOs across Europe are wlecome to apply for “United Youth Against Violent Extremism In Europe” project. The aim of this project is to provide to youth trainers’, youth activists’ and young people at risk of social exclusion skills to act against violent extremism and hate speech, fostering young people’s active participation, promote social cohesion and increase a sense of European citizenship. Participation is fully funded. Deadline to apply is February 15.
“United youth against violent extremism in Europe” is a partnership activity organized by HREYN – Human Rights Education Youth Network, UNITED for Intercultural Action, EYP – European Youth Press and the Youth Department of the Council of Europe. The project builds upon the experience gained by these organizations and its members in different European contexts throughout the No Hate Speech Movement Campaign promoted by the Council of Europe and on the proposals collected by HREYN during the Study Session “Building Peace in Europe – The Role of Civil Society and Young People” held in Budapest in March 2016.
The educational approaches will follow the principles of non-formal education, mainly through experiential learning where participants learn from one another and explore the themes through inputs and discussions, simulation activities and work in smaller working groups. The experience of participants is the starting point, but methods will vary in the different phases and will be adapted the needs of the selected groups of participants.
1st Study Session: April 24-28 2017. The first Study Session will be open to youth trainers/activists already engaged and experienced in countering hate speech within the No Hate Speech Movement and through the partner organizations.
Intermediate phase: April-September 2017. Participants will implement a joint action day/campaign defined during the first Study Session.
2nd Study Session: September 11-15 2017. The second Study Session will be open to youth trainers/activists and young people engaged during the intermediate phase, with priority to young people belonging to vulnerable groups and/or at risk of social exclusion.
Main criteria
- have experience in countering hate speech within the No Hate Speech Movement and through the partner organizations.;
- are highly motivated to participate and contribute to the event and to implementation of its results;
- are ready and able to work as multipliers;
- are preferably aged between 18 and 30;
- can attend the full duration of the first study session and to the intermediate phase;
- can work in English;
- reside in a Council of Europe Member State.
Board and lodging costs will be covered by the Youth Department of the Council of Europe. Travel expenses and visa costs will be reimbursed upon presentation of the relevant receipts, according to the rules of the Council of Europe. Only the participants who attend the entire study session may be reimbursed. The payment will be made on spot at the end the study session or by bank transfer after the study session in Euros.
