Iranian hackers attack Singapore universities to access research data
Four Singapore universities were targeted by Iranian hackers as a part of last month’s security breach that involved global education institutions. At least 52 accounts were affected from Singapore Management University, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore (NUS), and Signapore University of Technology and Design. Investigation carried out by Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and Ministry of Education (MOE) has shown that no sensitive data had been stolen. Hackers tried to access to the institutes’ research articles published by the academic staff and online libraries.
Agreement between the UK and Australia on stronger research partnership
Universities UK and Universities Australia are preparing a plan for a mutual partnership that will become even stronger in the post-Brexit world, with a focus on research collaboration, student mobility and mutual recognition of qualifications. Universities Australia chief executive Belinda Robinson stated: “We have a very long-term bilateral relationship between our two higher education sectors with a strong track record of exchange and interaction of academic and student talent and collaborative research.”
French universities cancel subscription to Springer Journals
Negotiations between a national consortium of academic institutions and the publisher have reached a deadlock, reports The Scientist Magazine. French universities and research organizations decided to cancel their subscriptions to Springer journals due to an impasse in fee negotiations between the publisher and Coupering.org which is a national consortium that represents more than 250 academic institutions in France. Couperin.org and SpringerNature publish more than 2,000 sholarly journals which belog to Nature, Springer and BioMedCentral and they could not reach an agreement on subscriptions for their Springer journals.
