True Stories for Truly Magical Holidays

The holidays are just round the corner and this time we have selected a few engaging movies inspired by true events. We hope you will enjoy them all.

Stan & Ollie
The legendary Laurel and Hardy – a comic duo experienced their golden years in between 1920s – mid of 1940s for their slapstick comedy and are now in 1950s trying to make a comeback. Less known is the fact that while they were making millions around the world laugh, their personal lives were less of an amusement.

Shadowlands
Clive Staples Lewise – a philosopher and writer known for The Chronicles of Narnia has been portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in this film about his later years and specially his relationship with Joy Gresham (Debra Winger). A story of an unusual romance between a conventional bachelor in the environment of Oxford university and an American poet and writer Gresham who has an entirely different attitude. The film brings an interesting insight to what could be an incompatible couple at first sight but they become understanding and sensitive of each others’ needs.

Green Book
A truly charming story of hope for the upcoming holidays. Based on true events it brings a realistic view to the hypocritical American society back in 1960s. Tony Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) is of Italian descent in New York city making his living as a bouncer. Dr. Don Shirley on the other hand is a famous African American piano player touring through the southern states where racism is still in full force. What is at first a conflicting match eventually turns into a life long friendship.

Bernard and Doris
And finaly a comedy drama about the rich heir to the tobacco empire Doris Duke and her unlikely friendship with her personal valet Bernard Lafferty. Susan Sarandon and Ralph Fiennes both only prove that they were made for this strong story where not a minute is boring.
