If you are looking for something new to watch on AppleTV+, worry not, our guide will help you find what you need.
It is hardly possible to find a person who doesn’t have a subscription to at least one streaming service. The largely successful Netflix, that changed the game for the whole industry, merely needs to be mentioned. HBO and Amazon PrimeVideo are the other two leading streaming services, that are becoming more used worldwide.
But what about AppleTV+? You rarely hear about it, or what shows (if any) they have there. Many still don’t even know streaming from Apple is an option nowadays. Meanwhile, this platform has some hidden gems that may not be as widely known and popular as its competitors’ shows, yet they exist.
Today we rounded up the top five AppleTV+ shows you need to start watching right now.
The Morning Show
This drama was the main reason why I decided to give AppleTV+ a try, and it didn’t disappoint. The series follows the professional and personal lives of The Morning Show anchors. The main characters are the veteran morning show host Alex Levy (Jennifer Anniston) and Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon), a reporter from Virginia, who became an internet sensation after she had a breakdown during her coverage of the coal mine protest. We get a behind-the-scenes look at how the show’s team goes through their inner transitions due to some societal changes and tries to learn from their past mistakes while holding their employees accountable for their actions.
There are currently two seasons available, and it was recently announced that the third season is happening.
Servant
If The Morning Show was the reason why I joined AppleTV+, then the next show is definitely the reason that made me stay. M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant is an intriguing drama full of mysteries, dark secrets, and unexpected twists. The plot revolves around a married couple Dorothy and Sean (Lauren Ambrose and Toby Kebbell), who are grieving the death of their newborn son. In order to help his wife recover from it, Sean agrees to give Dorothy a grieving doll, as a way to replace their deceased baby. However, soon enough Dorothy adapts to the doll and forgets the death of her actual son. She decides to hire a nanny to look after the doll. Unable to tell his wife the truth, Sean has to go along with it. That’s where Leanne (Nell Tiger Free) arrives, and the interesting part begins. It is worth mentioning that while the series overall is very dark and mysterious, there is still room for some dark comedy. It is mainly seen in the scenes with Dorothy’s brother Julian, played by no other than Rupert Grint.
With two seasons available, there is currently a new episode of season three releasing every Friday.
Defending Jacob
This drama starring Sean Evans, beloved Captain America, tells the story of an assistant D.A. investigating a murder, in which his own son Jacob (Jaeden Martell) becomes the main suspect. This series is a slow burner, so don’t get disappointed if at first, it doesn’t feel like it lives up to the hype. Give it some time, and I promise it will be worth it.
There is currently only one season available, with no official release information regarding the possible season two.
The Afterparty
If all the above-mentioned series sound too serious and dramatic for your liking, and you would rather watch something fun and easy-going, this one is for you. The Afterparty is a murder investigation comedy. In which each episode unfolds the events of a high school reunion night. That night an afterparty’s host and superstar Felix (Dave Franco) was discovered dead on the shore of his own mansion. Who did it? What was their motive? That is what the detective on the case (Tiffany Haddish) is trying to find out.
New episodes of the first season are being released every Thursday.
WeCrashed
The last show on the list has not even premiered yet, but it is the one worth adding to your list. WeCrashed is a love story about the CEO and founder of one of the most successful startups, WeWork, Adam Neumann (Jared Leto), and his wife Rebekah Neumann (Anne Hathaway). If you are not familiar with WeWork, here are a few takeaways. WeWork was launched in 2010 as a co-working space for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and startup founders, where they could rent a desk for as little or as long as they wanted. Unfortunately, by 2019 the company almost went bankrupt and Neumann had to resign. It is hard to predict the plot of the miniseries, but one thing is for certain — this show sounds promising.
The first episode is coming out on March 18, 2022, and we can hardly wait.
