Six Full Scholarships For Musicians: Part Two

After yesterday's first part, we are back with three more music scholarships to sink your teeth into.

Scholarships For International Musicians To Study In The UK

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) offer a total of eight international scholarships each academic year; one undergraduate and one postgraduate at each of the four associated Royal Schools of Music.

These are the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music in London, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

These awards are offered in connection with, and on the recommendation of, each of the Royal Schools of Music.

The scholarships cover full tuition fees and part maintenance for the duration of the undergraduate programmes and for one or two years of postgraduate study.

Main Criteria

You must be a national of a country that is not in the European Union (EU).

You should not have been living and/or studying in the UK for more than a year preceding 31 January in the year of entry to the course.

You must be at least 17 years of age for an undergraduate study, and 21 years for postgraduate study.

No separate application process is necessary, as candidates are automatically considered for the scholarships by the Admissions Board at each Royal School of Music. Recommendations are then made directly to ABRSM.

Reina Sofia School of Music Scholarships in Madrid, Spain

The Reina Sofía School of Music offers all its students the possibility of choosing different types of scholarships to help cover the costs of their studies, with the premise that the economic conditions of each person should not be an obstacle to studying at the School. 100% of the students receive a total or partial scholarship for their tuition.

The conservatory offers tuition and accommodation scholarships to help cover part or all of the associated expenses.

Depending on availability, the School provides enrolled students who need this the use of quality musical instruments during the academic year.

Main Criteria

The process to apply for scholarships begins when the student passes the audition to enrol at the School. At that time, the necessary family economic information to calculate your scholarship will be requested.

Gifted young musicians or musicologists from Spain are invited to apply for a Hezekiah WardweIl Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The new scholarship application round will commence in October 2021.

The Wardwell Fellowship enables you to attend further training or an advanced degree programme at an academy of music or a conservatory in Germany.

You may apply for funding for one or two semesters of study (from October to either February or July of the following year).

The monthly fellowship grant is €900. Additional €250 are offered as a travel allowance from Spain to Germany.

You may spend part (up to five months) of a ten-month (two-semester) fellowship in a different European country (except Spain) if this is necessary to pursue advanced studies.

Main Criteria

Before applying, you should discuss your plans with your chosen host. In addition to a binding mentoring agreement, we will need a confidential written host’s statement from her/him. These documents, as well as two expert reviews from music experts, should be sent by e-mail to info[at]avh.de.
