Pulliam Journalism Fellowship for Students in the USA

The Indianapolis Star and The Arizona Republic, Gannett Co. newspapers, are seeking college students and new graduates with a talent for reporting, news design and graphics, or photojournalism for an exciting and demanding journalism fellowship program. Fellows will receive $650/week for the 10-week program. The deadline is on 1 November 2020.

How to win a Pulliam journalism fellowship? The Indianapolis Star and The Arizona Republic are part of the USA Today Network, a national digital newsgathering service providing shared content between USA Today and the company’s 92 local newspapers throughout the United States as well as pooling advertising services on both a hyperlocal and national reach.

The Pulliam Journalism fellowship will take place between 7 June 2021 and 13 August 2021.

Candidates should submit a completed online application form, samples of their best published work, at least half of which completed under deadline, a resume, one letter of recommendation from an editor, supervisor, teacher or colleague.

Additionally, you need to provide professional references who can speak about your work as a journalist.

Applicants will be able to select a newsroom of their choosing out of the following options: news, sports, things to do (arts, entertainment and dining), visuals (photo and video), digital (homepage, digital producing and copy editing), social media, and audio (audio and podcasts).

The deadline is on 1 November 2020.

 

Main criteria

College juniors, seniors and graduate students enrolled in a journalism or related degree program at a US college as of 1 November 2020, are eligible to apply.

Previous newspaper journalism internships and/or experience as a journalist on a college newspaper are preferred.

You need to be committed to a career in news journalism.

You must have reliable transportation and arrange for your own housing.
