The Leventhal Map & Education Center (LMEC) at the Boston Public Library is a special collections centre with research, educational, and exhibition programmes relating to historical geography.

It is the steward of the Boston Public Library’s map collection, consisting of approximately a quarter million maps, atlases, globes, etc.

Eligible candidates are researchers, students, and faculty members as well as independent scholars in the fields like journalism, design, and policy who can demonstrate a commitment to historical inquiry. 

Successful fellows will receive a stipend of $3,000. They are expected to spend between one and three weeks in residence at the LMEC. During this time, fellows will prepare a report on their ongoing research for publication on the LMEC website. 

The deadline is on Monday 12th April 2021.

 

Main Criteria

  • A statement describing the proposed research project
  • A project plan  
  • A full CV in PDF format
  • Final round applicants will additionally be required to submit a letter of support from a colleague or supervisor. Letters of support will be solicited by the end of April.
