IBS Young Scientist Fellowship in South Korea

Young scientists who possess a PhD are invited to apply for a three-year fellowship at the Institute for Basic Science in South Korea. Fellows will be provided with an annual salary of up to $63,000 and additional funding for independent research. The deadline is on Wednesday 30th June 2021.

With the vision of making discoveries for humanity and society, the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) was founded in 2011 by the Korean government to promote basic science in Korea.

The fellowship offers junior scientists opportunities to conduct independent research by utilising state-of-the-art infrastructure and to grow on the basis of research collaborations with leading researchers.

The fellowship will last for up to three years with a possible two-year extension depending on the performance review results.

After physically relocated to one of the IBS Centers, YSFs will conduct independent research by utilising research facilities and equipment of their centre. YSFs may organise a small research group.

Annual of funding of up $135,000 and up to $270,000 for theoretical and experimental fields, respectively, is available. This includes a salary of $54,000-63,000.

Main Criteria

Candidates should have obtained their Ph.D. no earlier than 1 January 2014 and be born no earlier than 1 January 1981.

Candidates will be preliminary evaluated on their level of intent (three pages max.). Successful candidates will then be requested to submit an approx. 10-page full research proposal, up to three reference letters and presentation materials.
